Arttu, a.k.a Dunston's Nobody Knows, b. 31.12.2004
Our first westie Arttu is a true gentleman
and quite a city slicker. We picked him up from kennel Dunston's in Tampere in February 2005. It was a long
journey back home to Joensuu but it went all right, dozing on the backseat.
Arttu is far calmer than our younger dog,
and thus, he may appear more intelligent. As westies generally, Arttu loves
people but he enjoys having his own space, too. His favourite pastimes are long
walks in the forest where he can snuffle around to his heart's content. His
hunting instinct is alive and well, as we have learned a few times... Another
interest that Arttu has only recently picked up is watching television. He
actually sits on the sofa and stares at the tv. Arttu often comments on the
programmes: boring talk shows cause whining and pleading looks on the person
holding the remote control, whereas wildlife documentaries and home videos, often featuring dogs and cats, are
watched with enthusiastic squeals. Friday is Arttu's favourite day as the Funny
Home Videos is aired at 8 pm on channel 4.
Since Arttu is older of the two dogs, he is
the boss. It only takes a tiny grunt to make sure that Torsti knows to stay
away from Arttu's toys, bones or mummy/daddy. Even though Torsti is bigger and
stronger, he submits.
Considering Torsti's tendency to making a mess either of himself or the surroundings, Arttu's gentlemanly behaviour is extremely appreciated. Arttu would never walk into a puddle or roll in undefinable, smelly matter. He even dislikes rainy weather. Thus, everytime Torsti indulges himself with a puddle of mud or does something similarly disgusting, we sigh " Thank goodness we have at least ONE smart dog!".
On New Year's Eve, in 2007, Arttu had his
third birthday. The celebration started with a delicious meaty cake:
